There is a voice that comes from very far away. Not from another era, but from another dimension of time, where words were not yet separated from gestures, and song was part of a rite that held the community together. UTTERN, a Friulian pagan shamanic folk band, have made this idea the heart of their artistic research. With their new single “RASNA” , out August 1, they continue a path that is both musical and spiritual: a journey into the roots of pre-Christian Europe, through languages that time has almost erased.
The track is sung entirely in Etruscan. It’s not a stylistic choice, but an act of cultural restitution. “Rasna” was the name the Etruscans gave to themselves, and the song celebrates the ritual related to sharing food, to being together in a sacred and festive way. It’s a value that crosses the centuries and today, in a fragmented world, resonates with surprising force. It’s not nostalgia, it’s necessity.
The music video, directed by Sergio Cinghiale, accompanies the track with images evoking ancient rites and landscapes suspended in time. Available on the band’s official YouTube channel, the video is the gateway to a universe that UTTERN have built piece by piece, exploring archaic languages such as Gaelic, Old Sardinian, Venetic, Ancient Greek, Proto-Germanic, and Latin. Each release is a piece of a mosaic that speaks of memory and identity.
The single was recorded at No Shoes Studio in Dolo (VE) by sound engineer Stefano Pivato and artistically produced by Bruno Giraldo, our editor-in-chief, already involved in the previous work “Mediterra”. His presence behind the project is no coincidence: it’s a sign of the attention BrioMediaGroup reserves for music that tells stories, that digs into roots, that isn’t afraid to be anachronistic in order to be true.
The release date, August 1, is not just a coincidence: it marks the beginning of a new phase for the band, who will perform with a double date (August 1 and 2) at the Castlefest in the Netherlands, the most important European event for fantasy and pagan music. An international debut that opens the doors to a future of new frontiers, with dates already confirmed in the Czech Republic and France.
UTTERN are Denise Cannas, Sybell, Deborah Olivo, Serena Durì and Federica Capra. Five female voices that become spokespersons for an ancient spirituality, capable of speaking to the heart of contemporary Europe. With “Rasna”, they remind us that roots are not a weight to flee from, but a strength to rediscover. And that the sharing of food, song and ritual is still today the most revolutionary gesture we can make.
